A real life drama based on the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones will begin on ITV this month.
The first trailer for Little Boy Blue shows the fight to bring Rhys鈥?murderers to justice after the senseless killing in 2007.
The four part series is based on the police investigation that followed the young Everton fan鈥檚 murder and stars Stephen Graham as SIO Dave 鈥楴ed鈥?Kelly who was appointed to lead the investigation for Merseyside Police.
Sinead Keenan and Bryan O鈥橞yrne will play Rhys鈥?parents, Mel and Steve Jones, who have given their support to the up-coming drama.
In the days following Rhys鈥?/a> murder in August 2007, Everton provided support for the schoolboy鈥檚 heart-broken family, including a poignant Goodison tribute that has been recreated for the programme.
The drama, written by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter and executive producer, Jeff Pope, is based on careful research.
It will explore Melanie and Steve鈥檚 ordeal following their shooting of their little boy as he made his way home to Croxteth Park across the Fir Tree pub car park following football practice.
Melanie and Steve are supportive of the production and previously said: 鈥漌e wanted to get involved in this drama because we thought it was important for people to understand what really happened.
鈥淗ow close Rhys鈥檚 murderer came to escaping justice, and how in the end the simple courage shown by some of those involved in these events, and their refusal to be intimidated, led to the conviction of Sean Mercer and others involved in Rhys鈥檚 murder.
鈥淭he part Merseyside Police and especially Detective Superintendent Dave Kelly played in this cannot be over-estimated.
鈥淏ut beyond this we wanted to show the devastating effect the loss of our beloved son Rhys had on our family, and how the grieving process affected us long beyond the 鈥榗losure鈥?of a guilty verdict.
鈥淭hough some may find what happened to us shocking we think it is right to tell the whole story.?/p>
