Merseyside actor Stephen Graham was today spotted filming in the city centre for what is believed to be a drama about the 2007
murder of schoolboy Rhys Jones.
Stephen and a host of actors and extras were seen in costume outside Liverpool Crown Court on Sunday afternoon.
Crews had previously been spotted filming in a pub in Astely, Wigan, for ITV鈥檚 four part drama.
The Wigan pub was being used as a stand in for the Fir Tree Pub in Croxteth - the pub schoolboy Rhys was shot dead outside of in August 2007 as he walked home from football practice.
Liverpool actor Stephen Graham, who has also appeared in Boardwalk Empire and This is England, has been cast as SIO Dave Kelly, who led the investigation into Rhys鈥檚 murder on behalf of Merseyside Police.
Sinead Keenan and Bryan F O鈥橞yrne will play Rhys鈥檚 parents Melanie and Steve Jones.
It is believed the new ITV drama series will be called 鈥楲ittle Boy Blue鈥?
ITV said the programme is based on 鈥渃areful research鈥?/a> and has the support of Melanie and Steve.
The innocent 11-year-old was the tragic victim of gang violence as a hooded teenager who was aiming at members of a rival mob fired from a mountain bike.
Rhys was hit in the back as shots were fired across the pub鈥檚 car park and died in his mother鈥檚 arms.
An ITV spokeswoman told the ECHO: 鈥淲e can confirm ITV has commissioned a four-part factual drama entitled Little Boy Blue focused on the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones in Croxteth, Liverpool, in 2007.
鈥淩hys鈥?parents Melanie and Steve are supporting the making of the drama, which is based on careful research.
鈥淭he drama will explore Melanie and Steve鈥檚 ordeal, and will tell the story of how Rhys鈥?murderer and associates were eventually brought to justice.?/p>
