A schoolboy has been charged with trying to rape a child.

The defendant, aged 13 and from Bootle, has been charged with four counts of inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He has also been charged with one count of attempted rape of a boy under 13.

The court listings sheet says that defendant has denied the charges. All the charges relate to the same alleged victim, a boy under the age of 13.

There was a brief hearing into the matter at Sefton Youth Court earlier today.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not in court.

All the offences are said to have taken place last year, at the same address in Bootle.

District Judge Richard Clancy adjourned the case until May 3.
