A Liverpool city centre office block could be extended upwards so it can be converted into apartments.

Developer Legacie wants to convert Reliance House in Water Street into 41 buy-to-let flats.

Now architects Falconer Chester Hall have revealed striking images of what the extended building could look like.

The images, seen as part of a planning application submitted to Liverpool council, show an extra two storeys would be added to the top of the block facing Water Street, while three storeys would be added to the rest of the building facing onto Old Church Yard and Tower Gardens.

Legacie is selling the apartments on a buy-to-let basis.

On its website, it says: 鈥淭he one bedroom apartments are large and would be ideal for single professionals or young couples.

鈥淭he two bedroom apartments all have two bathrooms, and the design offers two nearly equally sized full double bedrooms - thus enabling tenants to easily split the rent.

鈥淭he rental market in Liverpool is buoyant ?with demand from resident tenants, students, and tourists.?/p>
