A row of empty Georgian houses in Liverpool could be extended upwards and converted in to an 鈥渁parthotel鈥?
Epic Liverpool ?which already runs an aparthotel in Duke Street ?wants to turn 151-155 Duke Street into 21 self-contained aparthotel units with restaurants on the ground floor.
The three buildings are now boarded up, with colourful posters showing off the history of Liverpool鈥檚 Chinese community . The interiors have been stripped out.
Under the Epic plans, the existing three-storey brick facade will be cleaned and repaired while all windows and doors will be replaced.
Above that an extra roof level, clad in grey zinc, will be added.
In a document submitted to Liverpool council, NC Architecture said: 鈥淭he roof alterations will create a modern appearance and will complement the existing brick building, which will be retain in its original character.?/p>
An aparthotel is a hotel that provides self-catering apartments as well as more typical hotel facilities.
The ground floor and basement have been earmarked for 鈥淎3 commercial units鈥? A3 is planning jargon for businesses, including restaurants and cafes, that sell food and drink to be consumed on the premises.
